High School Mission Trip |
Sometime this month, registration for the High School Mission Trip will begin. This year, we will be working with Branches United Methodist Mission in Florida City, Florida. The mission trip will be July 3rd-10th. As all plans are finalized, we will be able to give you a specific cost. At this point expect around $150-175.
We will have the opporunity to be involved in all aspects of their mission, learning and participating in all they do through the week. This will include an English and Spanish worship serve, Bible studies, time in the community, working in the ocra fields, the health clinic, and preparing the food pantry.
We will also be organizing and hosting a daily activity with some kids in the community, like a VBS or sports camp. This will be an awesome opportunity to see the needs here in our own state and learn about how those needs are being met by this mission.
As we finalize all our plans, take some time to find out more about South Florida Urban Ministries on the web and on Facebook.

Volunteering
We are in the process of looking for a few more volunteers to help with the youth ministry. We would like to have a few more adults on Tuesday evenings in JR High, Wednesday evenings with High School, and on Sunday nights to lead a small group.
Some people hesitate to volunteer in church programs and the youth ministry because it is a weekly comitment. People wonder, "What if I am not able to make it one week?" It has always been my preference to have a few more adults than are necessary on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and to have two adults leading each small group. This makes it very simple to miss a week, when something comes up in your schedule.
It can also be intimidating sometimes. "I don't know enough about the Bible to volunteer." That's ok. If God has called you into this area, He will give you all you need to succeed. Our curriculum provides a lot of information about each topic. If you don't have all the answers, you are just like to rest of us.
I'm going to let you in a secret. If God has placed it on your heart to work with young people, that call is not going away. Like many other before you, all the way back to some biblical figures, that tug to get involved will still be felt on your heart.
If you feel like you are not ready, I certainly understand. But when you are, we have space for you and God will use you to make a powerful difference in the lives of youth.
Sincerely,
Bryant Johnson Director of Student Ministries FUMC |
